A-Z promising quotes: Delight

Life can be delightful, even if it’s difficult in dozens of ways. The challenge is to find the delights, and that is often a tall order for anyone battling the MS MonSter daily. It’s even harder during a full-blown multiple sclerosis exacerbation.

Still, delights are there for the finding. Delight may be discovered in a pretty sight, a kind word, a lovely song, or a hilarious joke. Or we may be delighted to attempt a daring or deliberately difficult feat that we’ve long thought we couldn’t do anymore or at all. And whether it’s a marathon or a walk around the block, it’s a delightful surprise to find we can do it.

That brings us to today’s promising quote, credited to American poet Maya Angelou (1928-2014).

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

Changes are hard – MS changes, even more so. But a different form of delight may be in store, because sometimes we surprise ourselves. Maybe the MS MonSter doesn’t have to win every battle. And maybe the battle is something altogether bigger, such as how we refuse to surrender.

That’s one way we are Kicking MS to the Curb.

  1. That is a great quote. I also think that your line: "The challenge is to find the delights" is simple, yet spot on. Every day-- we all need to take on this challenge.
