Fierce: Describing multiple sclerosis from A to Z

What does it mean to be fierce? Dictionaries use words like aggressive, competitive, determined, cutthroat, ferocious, intense, relentless, and unstoppable to describe it. Many of these words can be used to describe multiple sclerosis. But they can also paint a picture of the brave and bold MS Warrior, who battles this dreaded chronic medical condition each day.

MS is fierce, but we are fiercer.

The MS MonSter rages. He rears up and flexes his muscles. He bares his teeth and curls his claws.

But the MS Warrior still stands strong. Even if he or she is standing from a sitting position. The stance is clear. The MonSter won’t win.

People don’t die from MS. Not really. Sure, MS Warriors die, like everyone else does. Maybe complications of multiple sclerosis contribute to that. But the MS MonSter himself does not do us in. Let’s not give him that much credit.

We are fierce. We are fearless. We are formidable. And we are flat-out fed-up with feeling feeble. So we’re fighting, even if you can’t see it. Even if we seem to be sidelined for a while. Our fists are still flying fiercely.

Lately, folks have flung the word “fierce” about in another way. Popular culture has it that being fierce can mean something like amazing, awesome, beautiful, cool, fabulous, sassy, and sexy. Hey, if the fierceness fits, flaunt it in the MS MonSter’s fiendish face.
