Kooky: Describing multiple sclerosis from A to Z

It would be easy to blame every crazy, wacky, inexplicable ache or pain or tingle or physical challenge on multiple sclerosis. Honestly, it would.

The MS MonSter makes a pretty handy scapegoat for all that ails us, once we have a diagnosis. Often, the blame fits. It really does. MS is unkind and brings a kaleidoscope of knotty knocks that can kick a person keenly. (OK, that was a crazy collection of mixed metaphors, but I kept those “K” words together for the A to Z Challenge.)

But once in a while, the MonSter didn’t do it.

Don’t tell anyone I said this, but I’m getting older every day. (Any of us that are fortunate enough to wake up and breathe another day are in the same proverbial boat.) Weird symptoms can crop up that may have absolutely nothing to do with MS.

Still, I’d love to cast all my klutzy quirks, keen mishaps, and corporal complaints (as in body woes) into the MS blame bag.

  • I need stronger reading glasses than I did last year. Blame MS.
  • The car keys seem to have wandered off on their own. Blame MS.
  • I just broke a fingernail. Blame MS.
  • My jeans don’t fit like they did before the holidays. Blame MS.
  • I dropped three forks this morning, while emptying the dishwasher. Blame MS.
  • A neighbor dropped by, and I couldn’t remember her first name. Blame MS.
  •  Somehow my sneakers grow a little more snug by the end of each day. Blame MS.
  • My face is starting to look like a city road map up close. Blame MS.

I could keep going, but it would just be kooky. MS is a total drag. It brings a host of unpleasant symptoms and circumstances. And I pray every day for a cure. At the same time, it's become abundantly clear that multiple sclerosis is not a catchall for every challenge.
