Eye Pain - Facing MS symptoms from A to Z

Ee-yow. Multiple sclerosis can really sock it to me – right in the eye socket. That stabbing pain can zip right through my head like a rocket.

Know the feeling?

MS-related eye pain may be at its worst during optic neuritis flare-ups. That’s when blurry eyesight, color-blindness, and tunnel vision crops up the most. Some people even see spots or floaters with it.

The first time I was diagnosed with optic neuritis, I was first treated for a sinus infection, which I didn’t actually have. I trudged into the emergency room with (You guessed it!) excruciating eye pain. It was so intense that my vision was impaired. And the ER doc prescribed me five days of strong antibiotics.

That treatment didn’t exactly hit the mark.

A follow-up with an eye doctor led to a neurological referral and several MRI scans. MSers know the drill.

But oh, baby. That eye pain. It’s not out of reach to say a person might give his eye teeth to be rid of that eye pain. It is truly over-the-top-tical. (OK, bear with me. I wrote this with an MS migraine. Stay tuned for M-Day for more on that one.)

  1. I had an eye migraine once and that was awful but nothing compared to what you are describing. I'm so sorry. It sounds horrible.WeekendsInMaine
